THE
HYPNATWISTS

New EP "Have a Good Show" makes noise beyond the garage!

“Have a Good Show”

Officially released on March 21st, 2025.

“Have a Good Show” is our third EP: a journey through raw emotion, self-liberation, and heartfelt connection. From the sharp focus of righteous anger to breaking free from fear, manipulation, and stagnation, we shift into a poetic love letter to those we cherish before closing on a lighthearted anthem to our favorite daily ritual - coffee. Buckle up, it’s a ride. There’s a lot happening across these four songs.

A message from Tony about why we decided to title it “Have a Good Show”:

My dad was there front and center at the first live show The Hypnatwists played to the public. Sitting there with his orange OSU sunglasses I saw him bobbing his head and rocking along to our first set of Make Music Day in Salem. Within the same year I was on the phone with my mom while she was at the hospital visiting my dad and she said “oh your dad wants to tell you something”. The last thing I heard from my dad was “have a good show”. - Tony

“Temper, Temper” starts the EP with a song that represents our sonic journey so far! This song, while originally written and played at our first live shows, has undergone temendous growth as it evolved and developed throughout the first year of the band into the song it is today. From a drum and bass centric intro, into sudden stop we hear Ruby take us into the story filled with tension, winding rythyms, and an explosive chorus!

“Mr. Man” is a sharp, thought-provoking take on modern disconnection, self-doubt, and the quiet fears that shape us. With driving rhythms and biting lyricism, the song captures the tension between longing for meaning and getting lost in the noise. “Mr. Man” both continues the sounds and themes we come to expect, but doesn’t close the door on experimentation with a new vocal narrative approach not yet showcased in any of the previous songs.

“Love to Love You” is the break we all needed, we a vintage inspired swing feel and an change of pace not to be expected after listening to the previous two songs.

“Coffee Buddy” puts a caffeinated exclamation point at the end of the release! Drawing on the strengths of crowd favorites like “Chosen One” and “Dirty Rotten Niceness” while delivering incredibly catchy hooks making it a perfect feel-good coffee anthem we need to start each day.

Lyrics

Temper, Temper

Temper, temper
What’s the matter?
Batter batter
What’d I do to deserve your swing?

Gimme shelter
Your stormy weather’s
Helter skelter
Why’d you take my sunshine away?

I tried to be nice
But you’re a boulder on ice
And it’s getting thin like my patience
‘Bout to break anytime

You’re crossing my lines
And I would advise
That you realize I’m about to set alight

I’m starting to turn
Warmer and warmer
And when a fire starts in me I like to let it burn

You better run
Oh now look what you’ve done
Cuz when a fire starts in me I like to let it burn
When a fire’s hot in me I let it burn burn burn

Shouldn’t have bit me
Level with me
Did you really think that I’d just let it slide?

When you hit me
Feel your hand sting
Try and break a bomb
You’ll see yourself ignite

You thought I was sweet
At times I may be
But mess around and you’ll wish you never met me

You made a mistake
Thinking I’d take it
And now you’ve gone and woke the beast and you’re looking like meat

I’m starting to turn
Warmer and warmer
And a fire starts in me I like to let it burn
When a fire’s hot in me I let it burn burn burn

Don’t say you weren’t warned
I’m a third degree girl
And when a fire starts in me I like to let it burn
When a fire’s hot in me I let it burn burn burn
I like it when the fire in me burn burn
Burns

Mr. Man

Mr. Man goes up and down the street
Afraid of all the people that he gets close to but never meets
Mr. Man don’t like this place at all
He’d rather be inside the window in his palm where he belongs

Mr. Man is bummed about his life
He’ll never say it but he fears he’s nothing in anyone’s eyes
Mr. Man is looking for a chance
To be part of something bigger than him; the kind of thing that lasts

When did you fall
For the call to give it all away
To someone else so they could claim every square centimeter of your lizard brain
And now your body’s just a base for your thumbs as they agree to the terms of your self decay and so the price you pay to feel okay is worse than what you’re afraid of

Mrs. Ma’am wasn’t always this way
Like you and me and your friend Dave
I’m sure you know someone named Dave
She used to be a blank slate little babe
Who she is now’s made out of the things she’s learned along the way

She don’t care about that wrong or right
The truth had better suit her mood like a dress that’s tailor-fitted to her spite
She loves this echo chamber land, yes ma’am yes ma’am
For a tiny fee your mind is free to agree with your own head

Who’s won the fight
When you’ve left what’s left of you behind
To join a race whose fuel is based on the hatred of a meek and ill defined enemy
You’re telling me you’re following a God who lies and vilifies and touts his sin and instructs you persecute anybody that you dislike
Is that right?

Where will you find
The kind of peace that lets you sleep at night
A bed of lies seems a bit bad for the spine
Is that why it’s so hard for you to stand up right
The only thing your mind is keen to change is mine
Cuz if you’re happy and you know it, you close your eyes
And 1 2 hut you pass that blame to the sucker next in line

How will you learn
Your biggest threat to you lies in yourself
You let the fear pull the strings inside your head
Don’t fear a thing baby you’re already dead
I guess I wonder what you’ll answer to the mirror
When it asks you what you’ve left when you’ve left here
The bell still tolls for those who deny that they hear it

Love to Love You

I heard the moon saw your eyes and started to cry
How could something be so full and bright
I saw the sun look your way and turn kind of gray
Wishing it could shine your kinda light

Baby I never knew someone could be so good
You make my heart feel brand new

My darling sweet
It’s plain to see
Why I love to love you

I found the birds quiet their chirps wanting to listen to your song
The fish down below swim to the shores
Just a glimpse of you is all they want

Baby skies in my life had never been blue
Until the day you shined through

My darling sweet
It’s plain to see
Why I love to love you

Baby I never knew life could treat me this good
Letting me live it right next to you

You’re everything a wish could bring
You’re more than a dream come true
That’s why I love to love you

Coffee Buddy

My little friend is always there to greet me
First thing I want when I wake up
My little guy is such a sweetie
He always helps me perk right up

I can’t imagine life without him
How would I ever fill my cup
I can’t imagine life without him
I wouldn’t talk to anyone

Some like it cold
Some like it hot
Gimme my shot

Drip drip drip
And pour it in the pot
Gimme my shot

My little buddy buddy
He’s my bestie
He’s making sure I’m nice and friendly

My little buddy buddy
Warm and fuzzy
He’s making sure I’m not too grumpy

While at work and even on the weekend
He’s making sure that I don’t sleep in

If I’m a jerk or dealing with some feelings
He’s making sure I’m even-steven

Some like it cold
Some like it hot
Gimme my shot

Drip drip drip
And pour it in the pot
Gimme my shot

Light light light
or
Dark dark dark
Gimme my shot

Sip sip sip
Want want want
Just one more shot
